Today is the 17th of the Jewish month of Tamuz, a day that marks the beginning of a three-week mourning period. One of the things that is said to have happened on this day is that the walls surrounding the temple in Jerusalem were torn down about 2000 years ago.
To commemorate and remember this event here are a few songs for the day.
We’ve just about reached the halfway point of the year, and with it comes the time for us to take a gander back at all the amazing new albums released this year. We had some great debut albums and myriad later releases, in a year that has so far released few of the albums I was excited about (Radiohead, The Strokes, Arcade Fire) but still has managed to keep me highly entertained.
So here it is: my list of the best, the most interesting, the quirkiest, and the stuff I just love to listen to; all combined into a no-order-necessary and no-nonsense list. Check out the tracks, buy the albums, and as always – enjoy the music. Continue reading →

It has been a fabulous week, hasn’t it. If you haven’t been tuning in, over the last 5 days, I’ve been posting Bonnaroo bootlegs from this year’s event. We had The National, Jay-Z, The Avett Brothers, and LCD Soundsystem.
To round things out, here are the Local Natives, a band I’ve hailed, seen in concert, and consider one of the best new acts of the year. Enjoy the boot, and I hope you’ve enjoyed our time this week.

This is a band that I’ve only recently begun to listen to. I’m totally obsessed with his new album, and based on this bootleg, it’s clear that his energy and artistic vision translate brilliantly from the studio to the stage.
[Edit: Two more versions of the song have been added to the post. You choose which one you like best.]
I must thank the amazing Pearl Jam blog, TwoFeetThick for this one. At tonight’s (last night’s?) PJ show in Dublin, the boys debuted a song that Eddie called “so new it might not even be a song…. We’ll see.”
Is this some kind of “Out Of My Mind” phenomenon where the band plays it once and some crazy fan donates money to charity to hear it played ten years later? Who knows. Who cares? Right now, all that’s important is that there’s some new Pearl Jam out there, and for you to download.
The audio isn’t the best (I ripped it from this YouTube clip), but apparently a more official version is being played on Pearl Jam radio. So listen to my mp3 below, watch the video, or stay on PJ Radio for hours hoping to hear the track. Either way, make sure you listedn

If only for this boot, I’m sorry I missed this year’s ‘Roo. I know the lineup wasn’t amazing this year, but this Jay-Z set is full of intense energy, that seemed to translate pretty well to this formerly hippy festivel.
The premier rapper that he is, Jay has managed to both stay at the top of the game for this long, as well as cross his brand of rap over to the rock camp. Just take a look at any rock blog’s top albums of the 2000s list; everyone had Jay’s “Blueprint” on their list. Everyone respects him as a rapper, a performer, and an icon.
This is why he was one of ‘Roo’s headliners, and this is why he’s so great.
To start off the Bonnaroo bootleg week we’re going to go with The National. This band is getting huge press these days, just tore down Radio City Music Hall, and of course I just reviewed their latest album High Violet last week. The fact that this boot is stellar audio quality only adds to the reasons that this is concert is a must hear.
[Note: My file host is giving me problems again, so I’m using a different site where I have less bandwidth, and thus the single mp3 files have limited downloads. If you’re interested in listening to the whole show, download the zip file and save the bandwidth for those who just want to stream or DL a few tracks. Thanks!]
