New(ish) Music – Gorillaz and Yeasayer

For those of you who use this blog as a music news outlet, stop. I’m not very good at updating content often enough, nor do I have any real industry insiders to tell me anything before I discover it on Pitchfork or Stereogum.

Still, I feel that it’s important to update this site with news every now and then. So here’s a few releases that were dropped during the holiday weekend:

  • Yeasayer just gave the music world a nice Christmas present in the form of a Name Your Price & Download album. I’m not such a fan of their music, but by all means, go and grab this album if you’re at all interested.
  • Gorillaz just released a new album for stream on their website (unless you’re a fan-club member, in which case you get it as a free download). I’m currently streaming it now, so I can’t say much about it, but I do think it’s quite cool that they recorded the entire thing on an iPad. It’s kind of shticky and media-whoreish that they would record in this manner, but on the other hand it’s impressive, effective, and a great way to record while on the road. Note to the Rolling Stones: if you guys had an iPad, you may not have had to drag your mobile recording studio down to Nellcote to record Exile On Main Street, but then again it probably wouldn’t have sounded half as awesome an raw. Still, a toast to these guys for this impressive Apple-based recording.

Yeasayer – O.N.E (Live at Ancienne Belgique)

Gorillaz – HillBilly Man
